World Suicide Prevention Day.

Suicide prevention remains a universal challenge

Today is World Suicide Prevention Day 2020 which is celebrated every year on 10th September.  It is observed to create awareness and to promote worldwide action to prevent suicide.  This year, the theme for World Suicide Prevention day is ‘Working Together to Prevent Suicide.’

Many of us know the trauma of a family where somebody was driven to suicide so today let’s remember all who have died and all the families who have suffered because of suicide.  Let us be a candle in the darkness of people who are suffering and contemplating it.  The World Health Organization estimates that over 800,000 people take their own life each year – that’s one person every 40 seconds.

It is a developing problem and it seems to be the leading cause of death for people aged 15 to 29.  Each one of us needs to talk to people and convey that suicide is not the ultimate solution to any problem and that there is a lot to live for.  We have to be there for them.

Invitation:

Light a candle today at 8 p.m. near a window to show your support for suicide prevention, to remember a lost loved one, and to show support for survivors of suicide. Light a Candle e-cards or postcards are available in various languages. Let them know that we are with them.

The crucial role of collaboration is, for the third consecutive year, the theme on World Suicide Prevention Day (10th September):”Working Together to Prevent Suicide”. With the prevention of suicide to the fore, we are reminded that we can collectively rise to the challenges presented by suicide.
