Proudly, silent and still,

Twilight skeleton, leaf-count  nil.

Stark witness to glories changing fast,

In the transience of things not meant to last.

Spring leaves bud to share the light.

Summer flowers to shade our delight.

Autumn’s rust falls in hosts to welcome

Winter’s pearls and diamonds, in-laid.

 Despite tainted hope,

You are challenged to believe

New songbirds will sing of harvest,

                                          And receive.
