On Monday, July 28, 2003, Sister Ellen Muldoon passed away peacefully in Buffalo Trauma Centre, Buffalo, New York where she had been admitted two weeks earlier following a road traffic accident. |

| Ellen
was born in Keelogues near Loughrey, Co. Galway, Ireland.
Just before World War II she emigrated to the United States where
she came in contact with the Columban Sisters. In 1939
she joined the congregation in Silver Creek, New York. On her
return to Ireland with the then Superior General, Sister
Mary Patrick Moloney their ship was hit by a torpedo.
Having survived the ordeal, Ellen went on complete her
formation and made Profession of vows in Cahiracon, Co. Clare in
1943. Ellen spent many years in Los Angeles area where she was assigned in 1959. She worked in parishes and later became the co-ordinator of Hispanic ministries in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. With great zest for life and unfailing enthusiasm, Ellen lived every moment to the full, celebrating the Diamond Jubilee of her Profession earlier this year in a spirit of deep gratitude. |
On
Thursday July 31st, 2003 a funeral Mass was celebrated at St.
Columban's on the Lake, Silver Creek attended by family
members, Columban Sisters, staff of St. Columban's Nursing Home
and friends. The celebrant of the Mass was Fr. Peter Cronin, SSC, the homilist was Sister Ruth Duckert, SSC while Sister Jean Fitzpatrick, SSC played the organ. Ellen was laid to rest in the Columban Cemetery in Silver Creek, New York. She is survived by her sister, Mary
O'Reilly, who lives in Chicago and by ten nieces and nephews. May she rest in peace |
