|
Following a brief illness, Sister Lucina Lillis passed away peacefully on October 28, 2004 at the Motherhouse of the Columban Sisters in Magheramore, Wicklow, Ireland. From Cooraclare in County Clare, Teresa Mary Lillis joined the Columban Sisters in 1960 and became known as Sister Lucina. |

After Profession of First Vows in 1962, Sister Lucina trained as a nurse in St. Vincent's Hospital, Dublin. She was then assigned to nursing duties in the Columban Fathers' Infirmary, Dalgan Park, Navan where she had the privilege of caring for Fr. John Blowick, our Founder, when he died. In 1975 she went to Hong Kong where she nursed for several years before becoming instrumental in setting up homes for the handicapped. She helped to bring hope and a better life to many who were in need. She also helped with the administration of the Cheshire Homes in Hong Kong. Later Sister Lucina spent some time as a member of a Mission Awareness Team in Ireland before joining a Pastoral Team with the Columban Fathers and Lay Missionaries in the parish of St. Anne's, Custom House, East London. For the past year and a half she has also been a member of the Columban Sisters' Area Team in Britain. Always a community builder, in her parish work she helped to welcome and integrate ethnic minority groups. As a member of the Columban Lay Mission Team, she also helped in the formation and the placement of young lay missionaries. Her final illness was short. She was cared for in St. Bartholomew's Hospital in London until she was transferred to the Columban Sisters' Nursing Home in Magheramore less than two weeks before her death. The end came gently. She slipped away to God on October 28, 2004 while her Columban Sisters were praying at her bedside. She is buried in the convent cemetery in Magheramore. |
