Sister Mary Clarita Lachica Enters Eternal Life 




Columban Sister Clarita Lachica 
 passed away peacefully 
at the Columban Sisters' convent 
in Rosario Drive, Manila 
on May 2, 2007.

Sister Clarita Lachica was born and grew up in Butuan City, Philippines.  After completing her primary and secondary education in her home city she went to the University of Sto Tomas in Manila where she graduated with B.S.E.  After graduation she taught in the secondary department of Malate Catholic School and it was there that she came in contact with Columban Sisters who took over the administration of the school in 1957.  In 1961 she entered the Columban Sisters' congregation and did her postulancy and novitiate in Hyde Park, MA, U.S.A.  After First Profession in 1963 she was assigned back to the Philippines and taught in Immaculate Concecption College, Ozamiz City.  Later she held positions as teacher and principal in other Columban schools in Mindanao - San Isidro High School, Tudela, St. Michael’s High School, Tangub and Sacred Heart High School, Molave where she was also Superior of the community.  As well as her school work she was involved in pastoral activities in these parishes.  When her teaching career ended she was assigned to the San Juan community in Manila where she took on full-time pastoral work, visiting the poor in their homes, taking Holy Communion to the sick and helping in the parish feeding programme.  in 1992 she joined the community in Rosario Drive, Quezon City where at first  she took on pastoral work in Immaculate Conception parish but  soon her health began to deteriorate.  She died peacefully in Rosario Drive on May 2 and is buried in the Columban plot in Holy Cross Cemetery, Manila.
