Final Professions in Perú |
It was with great
joy and gratitude to God that the Columban Sisters
in Peru, gathered in Buen Pastor Church in Sol de Oro, Lima
on Sunday afternoon, April 30, 2006,for the Final Profession
of Sophia Kim and Sabina Choi. |

Among the more than two hundred people who were present for this wonderful celebration were two very special people, Mr. and Mrs. Kim, the parents of Sophia, who had traveled from South Korea for the occasion. They were joined by a large group of Columban Fathers, sisters of other Congregations, co-workers and friends of the sisters, some of whom had traveled from Vinchos, Ica and other parts of Perú.

| Sister Gloria Santos welcomed everyone who had come to share with us this very significant day. Sister Rebeca Duque did the commentary on the ceremony. The First Reading was done by Mary Mulcahy and Susanna Woo, together with Joseph Kang, sang the Responsorial Psalm in Korean and Spanish. The homily was given by Mary Nolan and Maura Gallahue received the Vows. At the end of Mass Sophia and Sabina offered words of thanks in both Spanish and Korean. | |
When all present at the Mass had offered their congratulations to Sophia and Sabina, everyone gathered in the parish hall where the celebration continued. Now Sophia and Sabina, as well as Sophia’s parents, were dressed in their traditional Korean costumes. There were songs in many languages and dancing to the traditional music of Peru. In all, it was a fitting expression of the multi-cultural reality of the Columban Sisters today.
