Last Sunday, October 23,2016 at Florian Hall in Dorchester, Massachusetts, our last benefit dance took place.
Almost 30 years ago, the Donegal association approached Sr. Eileen Rabbitte that they would like to start a benefit dance that would benefit directly our mission countries. They were joined by a number of relatives of our Sisters who also wanted to help. A few years later, when Eileen returned to Peru, Sr. Mary Austin, RIP, worked with the committee until 2007.When she went to Ireland, Margaret Devine, Ruth Duckert and Virgie Mozo have continued the legacy.
It was well attended and supported by friends, relatives, the Columban Fathers and former Columban Sisters. Music was provided by the Erin’s Melody, while the food and indoor prizes were a delight for everybody especially the winners. The closure of the evening was filled with joy and gratitude for the many years we have been supported both financially and prayerfully by the generous people here in the United States. And mixed feelings of sadness that the Columban Sisters presence in the Boston Area will be missed by them.
While we have gone to the ends of the earth , as the scriptures invited us to bring Good News to others, we could not have done it without the generous support of our friends and benefactors.
LAST DANCE….LAST DANCE… LAST DANCE…
