Sister Elizabeth Taaffe Celebrates 50 Years as a Columban Sister

Sister Elizabeth Taaffe

On September 8, 2005, Columban Sisters gathered in  Chunchon, Korea  to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the Religious Profession of  Sister Elizabeth Taaffe.

Sister Elizabeth  from Co. Louth in Ireland  has spent most of her 50 years as a Columban Sister on mission in Korea.

Sister Elizabeth's  nephew and his wife, Albert and Trudy Durnin, travelled  all the way from Ireland to Korea for the celebration.

Mass of the Feast of Our Lady of the Nativity was celebrated  by Father Dennis Monaghan - Regional Director of the  Columban Fathers, Korea - in the chapel of the Columban Sisters community,  of which Sister Elizabeth is a member,  in Juk-rim Dong, Chunchon.

Thanks to the Columban Sisters who reside at St. Columban's Home for Aged People, in Kuh-du-ri, Chunchon,  where Sister Elizabeth is engaged in Pastoral Work on the Hospice Team,  a Jubilee Mass was also celebrated there on September 9, 2005 by Father Paul Chun of the diocese of Chunchon. This was also a very happy occasion in the company of all Columban Sisters, staff, residents, many volunteers and benefactors.

Sister Elizabeth's family in Ireland arranged with the the Parish Priest , Rev. Father Shevlin, to have Mass in her home parish church of  St. Finian, Dromin, Co Louth,  on September 8.  So many of her relatives and neighbours were able to be united with her in the celebration of Mass at a distance.  This touched Sister Elizabeth very much and she has this to say:  ' May God shower His blessings on each one!  For all His graces and  favours, I offer a a heartfelt Thanks be to God'.
