Jubilee
Day |
|
After
an uncommonly wet summer it seemed that Nature herself
decided to pull out all the stops and let the sun spill
down on the day of the Jubilee. Never did Magheramore
look so beautiful, with the many coloured hyderangers in
particular bountiful in their bloom. The newly mown
grass sparkled and enticed the many children to run,
jump and play ball with abandon. That,
of course, was after the celebratory Eucharist for
Sheila Crowe, Kathleen McGrath and Bridie Lough, our
three Golden Jubilarians in our sun filled chapel in
Magheramore. Surrounded by family and friends they, and
we, gave thanks to the Lord for his great blessings over
the years. The celebrants, Fr. Peadar O’Loughlin, SSC and
Fr. Mark, Passionist
Fathers, were ably assisted by the choir who sang like
birds! Sheila’s brother, Paddy, sang the responsorial
psalm, ‘On Eagle’s Wings’ with great verve and
devotion. Sr Ita Hannaway gave an inspiring reflection
which brought the mystery and wonder of our missionary
calling into focus. As the three Sisters pronounced
their vows we rejoiced in the witness of their life-long
commitment. There
followed a superb meal in the dining room
which all relished. The many Sisters on holiday
or visiting added to the richness of the proceedings and
the conversation lasted until late in the evening. Sr Kathleen McGrath’s niece baked a lovely cake in the shape
of a book- lovely to look at and even lovelier to eat! The lovely long sunny afternoon lent itself to play for the children and conversation for the adults. As family and friends wended their way home we all thanked God again for this memorable Jubilee day. May our three Sisters, Sheila, Kathleen and Bridie reap abundant blessings on this their Golden Jubilee year. |
