Cecilia Cuizon and Gloria Santos
celebrated the Silver Jubilee of their Profession on May
18, 2003, with a special Eucharist in the Church
of Our Lady of Remedies in Malate, close to
Manila Bay in the Philippines. Present were members of Cecilia’s and Gloria’s families along with Columban Sisters, Fathers, Lay Missionaries, former classmates and friends. The introductory words of welcome were given by Sister Ann Rita Centeno and the main celebrant of the Mass was Fr. Michale Martin. |

The whole celebration was a joyous and happy one with
songs, music, ritual, dances and symbol representing the
sisters’ own culture and the cultures of the people
with whom they had been missioned.
As the people entered the church, the soft
strains of Peruvian flute music could be heard. The Gloria of the Mass, sung in Talagog, was interpreted in
dance by a group of young people.
To introduce the Word of God, Sophia Natama, the
most recently professed Columban Sister, did a symbolic
dance as she presented the BibleJust click on the

Just before the Offertory, Cecilia and Gloria
renewed the vows they had first made 25 years
previously. Then, to the gentle slow rhythm of the
“Huayno” music of Peru, young dancers scattered
flowers along the aisle of the church as the gifts and
symbols were taken to the altar. After
Communion, the Magnificat was sung in Spanish and
interpreted in dance by Gloria’s five-year-old
grandniece. The
Mass ended with everyone joining in the hymn, “I Will
Sing Forever of Your Love.”
