Four Columban Sisters Celebrate Golden Jubilee

April 19, 2009 marked the celebration of the Golden Jubilees of Sisters Ita Hannaway, Joy Carmody, Ita McElwain and Patricia McGuinness in the Motherhouse of the Missionary Sisters of St. Columban,  Magheramore, Wicklow, Ireland.

(L. to R):  Sisters Patricia McGuinness, Joy Carmody, Ita McElwain and Ita Hannaway renew their Vows

The day began for the jubilarians with a visit to the grave of Sister Pamela Casey and offering of flowers and prayers for her, their contemporary who died in 1989.

Fr. Patrick Carmody, Sister Joy's brother, with Columban Fathers as co-celebrants, offered a Mass of thanksgiving for the missionary vocation and the lives of Sisters Ita, Joy, Ita and Patricia.

Kelan Murphy and Páidi Carmody participated in the Offertory Procession.

The joy evoked by the prayers, readings, homily and singing during Mass continued throughout the day as families, relatives and friends of the jubilarians mingled, became acquainted, or re-acquainted, and shared memories of the day on which the celebrating Sisters made First Profession.

Irene and Richie Albert,  flew in from Boston to be part of the celebration.

Following the Mass and a delicious meal prepared by the staff of the Motherhouse the weather obliged everyone by remaining fine until the last of the visitors had said goodbye.  As they left Magheramore all were delighted that the day had been such an inspiring experience for them.
