Sister Bernadette Connolly Celebrates 75 Years in Religious Life
 

On Sunday May 9, 2004,  Sister Bernadette Connolly celebrated the 75the Anniversary of her Religious Profession as a Columban Sister.
Kathleen Connolly was born in Johannesburg, South Africa on June 20, 1907.  When she was three years old the family moved to Ireland to live near Banbridge, Co. Down.
Kathleen, who was an only child,  was educated by the Ursuline Sisters in Sligo and, when she was 19 years old, she joined the Columban Sisters and became know as Sister Mary Bernadette. 
She made Profession of First Vows in 1929. 
In 1934 she was assigned to Hanyang, China.  From China she went  the Philippines where she spent the years of World War II in Malasiqui.  From the Philippines she went to Hong Kong where she spent three years before being assigned to the United States.
In the United States she spent over forty years fundraising and promoting mission awareness.
She retired to Ireland in 1996 and is now being cared for in our Nursing Home at the Motherhouse in Magheramore, Wicklow.  There she continues to take a lively interest in matters of congregation and local interest.
