Columban
Sisters' Intercultural Programme |
|
|
| August 18, 2007 marks the conclusion of a two month Intercultural Programme for Columban Sisters ten or under ten years professed in the congregation. Sixteen Sisters, representing seven different missions: Philippines, Myanmar (Burma) England, Korea, Pakistan and Ireland participated in the programme which was held in the Bobbio Centre at Motherhouse in Magheramore, Wicklow, Ireland. |
|
The Sisters nationalities and cultural backgrounds varied: four participants were Filipinas; nine were Korean; there were two Peruvians and one Chinese in the group. The programme included short refresher courses on subjects such as missiology, spirituality, theology of the vows, Columban charism, interpersonal relationships and intercultural living. It provided the participants with opportunities for interaction in groups and for developing mutual understanding and appreciation of the various missionary undertakings in which they are involved. |
| The fact that the Motherhouse was the venue for the programme meant that the participants had easy and frequent access to the Motherhouse community where senior members of the congregation shared memories of early experiences of mission and thus encouraged them to spend their all, as they had done, in the service of the Gospel. |
|
Following the closing liturgy
the participants will leave for their respective missions,
enriched by the experiences of the past few months when
spirits were nourished, friendships forged and the flame
of their missionary zeal
burnished to a new brightness. |
