Sixth Medical Mission in San Juan, Philippines

8 April 2008

We Columban Sisters of San Juan City, Philippines and our Lay Associates organized our sixth quarterly medical mission for mothers and their children ages 1-4 years old. The current situation of the poor is a pressing problem of the widespread poverty in the country.

The focus of our mission is always on the health care and nutrition  for very poor mothers and their malnourished, hungry and sick children.  This is also in response to the current issues in the daily newspapers on the very high mortality of mothers and children at present in the Philippines.

Three lady volunteer doctors: a pediatrician, a gynecologist-pediatrician and a family care-medical doctor examined and gave medicine to three hundred and twenty eight (328) children.

In spite  of our hard struggle, we are always inspired by the words of Pope Pius XI, “Charity for the missions surpasses the energy of other work of charity; even as the soul surpasses the body, or heaven surpasses the earth, or eternity surpasses time.”
