On Mission in Myanmar 2010


 

Eight Columban Sisters are presently sharing the joys, sorrows, hopes and struggles of the people of Myanmar. Once you know who is who, you can click here to see them in action.

Four share life with the Kachin people of Northern Myanmar continuing a long history of friendship and mutual sharing.

Sister Tammy works in the Biblical apostolate at national level. She facilitates seminars and
training programs to make the Word of God accessible alive and active in the lives of people.

Sister Ashwena works with Kachin youth leading them in programs that release their creativity and talents. She develops training programs in human development, leadership skills and educational enrichment.

Sister Mary Dillon has developed home care health program for people with HIV/AIDS. She has
established a respite house to enable people from distant places to avail of medical care.

Sister Susanna shares her nursing skills as she develops a community based health program. She reaches out with her healing team to those most in need.

Sister Mary Ita works with local priests, seminarians and Sisters in the ministry of formation. She also facilitates a women’s centre which offers counseling and other services for women including a traditional weaving centre.

Sisters Kathleen, Margaret and Theresa are daily enriched by the people of Mandalay - Christian, Buddhist, Hindu and Muslim - as in collaboration with the local church they seek ways to build bridges of appreciation and mutual sharing between different faith traditions. Sisters Kathleen and Margaret share their teaching skills as they involve themselves in the teaching of English and the provision of other training. Sister Theresa's skills as a kindergarten teacher enable her to relate with ease and joy to the children.
