The  Columban Sisters in Kudari Community, Korea
tell us....

"Saint Columban's Home in Kudari,  Korea,  a unit of fifty beds catering for the needs of the elderly, those suffering from  Alzheimer's  disease as well as 'stroke' and hospice patients finally opened its doors on March 25, 2004.  It took time to get things in order  and admission of patients was  slow in the beginning as all applicants had to be recommended and approved by the City Office. Now five months later people know of our existence and we have forty six residents, both women and men.  Twenty five staff members  care for the inpatients while  the members of the Hospice Home Care Team operating from St. Columban's Home meet the needs of more than a hundred terminally ill in their homes"

"Sisters Nora Wiseman and Cecily McMahon reside in the Kudari community  since  May 31, 2004,  while Sister Elizabeth Taaffe commutes daily from Chun Chon.  Columban postulant,  Elisha Lee, joined the community on June 8  for her 'community experience' which is part of her formation programme and  recently professed Sister Joanna Han,  spent the  month of July  there  to familiarize herself with the ministry".

"M
any visitors are welcomed each day to view the Home.  Recently the Sisters were happy to welcome Archbishop Paul Grawng from Myanmar who had come to Korea to attend the Asian Bishops'  Meeting".

"This is a challenging ministry as most of the residents are fragile. Each day brings many incidents, some funny and some not so funny. The physical and mental  condition of the residents is a constant reminder to us that health and life, itself, are gifts that we cannot earn but for which we ought to be grateful.  The privilege of accompanying on their final journey people, many of whom have suffered family rejection, makes us aware that we in our turn, may need the same help some day".
