Deceased Columban Sisters Remembered
June 23,  2007

Saturday,  June 23,  2007 was  a day of remembering, of gratitude and of strengthening bonds with families of deceased Columban  Sisters - a day, too, of calling to mind and giving thanks for all our Sisters in all our missions.

The main celebrant at the Eucharist was Fr.  Pat  Donohoe,  chaplain at Magheramore.  Also concelebrating was Fr. Donal O'Dea, SSC who is on vacation from the Philippines.  Sister Patricia Quigley gave the homily.

The blessing of the graves  followed the Eucharist.   Each grave  was blessed in turn as  the choir sang Dona Eis Pacem.

It was a time for re-unions as  relatives of deceased Columban Sisters gathered to remember those who have gone before us.  They came from all over Ireland and, indeed,  some made the journey from England.   Apart from young children, of whom there was a noticeable number, most of the adults had been to Magheramore before, so there was a sense of home-coming, belonging and happy familiarity as the families were welcomed by members of the community and  memories were shared.

The cemetery breathed peace and even the birds and the wind that had been rustling the trees seemed to fall silent.  Then it was back to the house for a festive meal expertly presented and served, thanks to our wonderful lay staff and all the assistance given by our Sisters.
