Sister Mary writes: '"The
Legion of Mary is very active in the Hong Kong Church, especially in the
whole area of evangelization. Though all age groups are
welcome, the Legionaries here are young. In fact we claim to have
the youngest Legionaries in the world!
In a multicultural city like Hong Kong there is great scope the
apostolate carried out by legionaries. Members come from diverse races,
ethnic groupings and we all have the same mission of deepening our own
spiritual lives as we reach out to help others to do likewise. There is a
Korean Legion Curia here and the Legion is enriched by many Filipino
member also. I admire the zeal and enthusiasm of these people
as they visit the elderly, the sick, the lonely and the prisoners.
Over the years quite a few vocations to the priesthood and religious life
have come from the ranks of the Legion of Mary. Its founder, Frank
Duff, used to say that that the Legion was 'the cradle of
vocations" so we pray to him that he might ask Our Lady to continue
to inspire young legionaries to respond generously to her Son's call in
our modern, troubled times. I invite you who read this to join us in
the prayer for this intention also.
Columban sisters and priests have a long history of involvement with the
Legion of Mary in many parts of the world. Some of us are deeply
aware of the miracles of grace that we have witnessed through the
dedication, courage and perseverance of legionaries in the face of
difficulties in some parts. I, personally, never cease to be amazed at the
commitment and dedication of these generous people. I can truly say
that I have gained more that I have ever given. Sharing a mission
with these people has deepened my own faith and strengthened
me in living out my missionary religious vocation." |
