England and Scotland

Location:  

Britain, comprising England, Scotland and  Wales is situated the in the northwest corner of Europe.

 

Religion:  

The Church of England, the Anglican Church, is the established or state church in England. The Church of Scotland, the state church there, is Presbyterian.
 

 

 

 

 

Language:  

English is the official language but Welsh and Gaelic are also spoken.  Because of immigration into Britain, a wide variety of other languages can now be heard on the streets of the big cities of Britain.

Economy:  

Britain is a high-income economy with a long history of manufacturing and mining.  Social benefits are provided to those unable to work.  Healthcare and education are subsidized by the government.

The Columban Sisters in Britain:  

The work of the Sisters in Britain is varied:

1.   Mission awareness and 
      justice  education.

2.   Ministry to  people through
      visitation of the sick and the 
      lonely  in their homes, in
      hospitals or in prisons.

3.   Work with migrants, lay
      missionaries and people of
      other faiths.
